Our friend Gabrielle Li is back! More renewed and now with a new band called Misty Mountain 岚之山, from China, a pleasure to have her back!
Hi my friend Gabrielle! Thanks for hearing from you again! Welcome!
How have you been?
Gabrielle:
Hello Jose! Long time no see! I work and play in my band as usual. And Misty Mountain just finished the tour with Haggard in China! I wish everything goes well for you!
What have you done since before the pandemic?
Gabrielle:
As what I said, keep working, and Misty Mountain was born!!!
What happened during that critical period that hit us all around the world?
Gabrielle:
The world changed dramatically during that period, but I still did as usual. What has changed is that Silent Elegy has fewer activities, and Misty Mountain was born!!
You look great as always! What is the secret? ;)
Gabrielle:
Ah really? Maybe its laughing and becoming fat! In Chinese is “心宽体胖xin kuan ti pan”.It means that if you have an open mind and a happy mood, you will look peaceful. By the way, I lost weight. And like the most women, I spend time and energy, even money, on my face. I learned to do yoga, but now I'm lazy again. so I've gained a little weight. Keeping in shape is painful and means I need to eat less of my favorite foods. Whenever that time, oh my god I want to cry!
Darkzen:
Don't worry, you always look good!
Tell us what happened with your old band Silent Elegy? Will you continue?
Gabrielle:
(Red face) I'm embarrassed to mention it. We released 3 tracks in 2018. In some Chinese music website, this 3 tracks were included in an EP which we named “Maybe This Is The Second Album” . It was just a kidding name, because I planned get a new name when the second album releases. But it hasn't appeared yet. We plan to release a single later on this year or early next year. Of course! We will continue! And we have also keept some activities over the years. You can find some of our live videos in recent years on Youtube. It seems to be uploaded by some fans from China. I just saw it recently.
Tell us a little about yourself, has Gabrielle changed any musical influences?
Gabrielle:
As you know, I learned soprano. I heard Nightwish when I was in high school accidentally. Then I was surprised that soprano can be combined with such style of music.
But at that time, I originally thought Nightwish was a solo singer, and later learned that it was a band.
Tell us how you feel about this return and with a new band?
Gabrielle:
I've always been there. Silent Elegy still keeps being active in China, although it's not very high. You know, the second album has not appeared yet. What I want to say about Misty Mountain is that I personally think the music is very good! I really hope you can try to listen. Although there are some songs in the album that I didn't record, the male singer Cas Ti who recorded them is also a very very good singer.
What is or will be the musical style of your new band called Misty Mountain 岚之山?
Gabrielle:
Misty Mountain is neoclassical melodic metal, symphonic metal, but many people think we are power metal. They said we have the power to heal the heart. I'm happy to hear that if it's true.
I suppose you already have musical material done?
Gabrielle:
Yes, we currently have three versions of physical albums, but the content is the same. The first version was released by ourselves, and the other two versions were released by MORT PRODUCTIONS CHINA, which are divided into domestic and overseas versions.
I also see that you have already had live performances! Are you preparing a new single?
Gabrielle:
Yes, we have just been established for more than one year and have been performing continuously. Because everyone is mature musicians, we can adapt relatively quickly. At the same time, we are also preparing for the next album. By the way, the overall design for the next album will be very different.
Who are the members of your new band?
Gabrielle:
Thank you for asking this question. I'd love to introduce them. The five members of our band come from different provinces in China. And we are far apart from each other
. For example, I currently live in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. We have three musicians from Yunnan Province. They are guitarist Zi Lei, guitarist Jiang Hai and drummer Cui Junhao. It's more than 2000 kilometers to drive from me to them. The other one is bassist Yi Yun. He currently lives in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. In our performance he will give some growl parts.
What possible preview can you tell us Gabrielle, what do you want to tell us?
Gabrielle:
We are conduct a large-scale tour next year in China. Two bands together! And Misty Mountain had the honor of touring China with Rhapsody of Fire from October 4th to 6th.
Do you plan to collaborate with any other singer or musician?
Gabrielle:
I certainly hope I have such an opportunity! I hope to cooperate with excellent bands or pioneers to complete some works. I think this is a good thing for both parties and a good attempt for me. Hey! Does anyone look at me?
What else do you want to share with us, Gabrielle?
Gabrielle:
I take this opportunity to say that we hope we have the opportunity to go out and perform. If there is a label or festival organizer please take a look at us!!!!

Gabrielle:

¿Qué has hecho desde antes de la pandemia?

¿Ah, sí? ¡Quizás sea reír y engordar! En chino se dice “心宽体胖xin kuan ti pan”. Significa que si tienes una mente abierta y un estado de ánimo feliz, lucirás en paz. Por cierto, perdí peso. Y como la mayoría de las mujeres, gasto tiempo y energía, incluso dinero, en mi rostro. Aprendí a hacer yoga, pero ahora soy perezosa de nuevo, así que he ganado un poco de peso. Gabrielle:
(Cara roja) Me da vergüenza mencionarlo. Lanzamos 3 canciones en 2018. En un sitio web de música chino, estas 3 canciones se incluyeron en un EP al que llamamos "Maybe This Is The Second Album". Era solo un nombre de broma, porque planeaba obtener un nuevo nombre cuando se lanzara el segundo álbum. Pero aún no ha aparecido. Planeamos lanzar un sencillo a finales de este año o principios del próximo. ¡Por supuesto! ¡Continuaremos! Y también hemos mantenido algunas actividades a lo largo de los años. Puedes encontrar algunos de nuestros videos en vivo de los últimos años en Youtube. Parece que fueron subidos por algunos fanáticos de China. Lo acabo de ver recientemente.
Cuéntanos un poco sobre ti, ¿Gabrielle ha cambiado alguna influencia musical?
Gabrielle:
Como sabes, aprendí soprano. Escuché Nightwish cuando estaba en la escuela secundaria por accidente. Luego me sorprendió que el soprano se pueda combinar con ese estilo de música. Pero en ese momento, originalmente pensé que Nightwish era una cantante solista, y luego me enteré de que era una banda.

Siempre he estado ahí. Silent Elegy sigue estando activo en China, aunque no es muy alto. Ya sabes, el segundo álbum aún no ha salido. Lo que quiero decir sobre Misty Mountain es que personalmente creo que la música es muy buena! Realmente espero que puedas intentar escucharlo. Aunque hay algunas canciones en el álbum que no grabé, el cantante masculino Cas Ti que las grabó también es un muy, muy buen cantante.
¿Cuál es o será el estilo musical de tu nueva banda llamada Misty Mountain 岚之山?
Gabrielle:
Misty Mountain es metal melódico neoclásico, metal sinfónico, pero mucha gente piensa que somos power metal. Dicen que tenemos el poder de curar el corazón. Me alegra escuchar eso si es verdad.
Supongo que ya tienen material musical listo, ¿no?
Gabrielle:
Sí, actualmente tenemos tres versiones de álbumes físicos, pero el contenido es el mismo. La primera versión la lanzamos nosotros mismos y las otras dos versiones las lanzó MORT PRODUCTIONS CHINA, que se dividen en versiones nacionales e internacionales.
¡También veo que ya has tenido actuaciones en directo! ¿Están preparando un nuevo sencillo?
Gabrielle:
Sí, hace más de un año que estamos establecidos y hemos estado actuando de forma continua. Como todos somos músicos maduros, podemos adaptarnos con relativa rapidez. Al mismo tiempo, también nos estamos preparando para el próximo álbum. Por cierto, el diseño general del próximo álbum será muy diferente.
¿Quiénes son los miembros de tu nueva banda?
Gabrielle:
Gracias por hacer esta pregunta. Me encantaría presentarlos. Los cinco miembros de nuestra banda venimos de diferentes provincias de China y estamos muy lejos unos de otros.
Por ejemplo, actualmente vivo en la ciudad de Nanjing, provincia de Jiangsu. Tenemos tres músicos de la provincia de Yunnan. Son el guitarrista Zi Lei, el guitarrista Jiang Hai y el baterista Cui Junhao. Son más de 2000 kilómetros para llegar hasta ellos. El otro es el bajista Yi Yun. Actualmente vive en la ciudad de Hangzhou, provincia de Zhejiang. En nuestra presentación hará algunas partes en los guturales.

Planeamos realizar una gira a gran escala el próximo año en China. ¡Dos bandas juntas! Y Misty Mountain tuvo el honor de realizar una gira por China con Rhapsody of Fire desde el 4 al 6 de octubre.
¿Tienes pensado colaborar con algún otro cantante o músico?
Gabrielle:
¡Por supuesto que espero tener esa oportunidad! Espero poder colaborar con bandas excelentes o pioneros para completar algunas obras. Creo que es algo bueno para ambas partes y un buen intento para mí. ¡Oye! ¿Alguien me mira?
